The Pucka-Man's ProgressThe Pucka-Man’s Progress is a sexy, fast-paced historical adventure --- with an element of romance. It takes place in 18th Century Ireland, Africa, the Caribbean, and America. The protagonist, a young half-Irish, half-English exile has been forced to kill the brutal English overseer left in charge of the absentee English Lord's estate in Ireland. (The absentee Lord is the protagonist's father.) After killing the overseer, the young man, fleeing for his life, runs away to Bristol where he is impressed aboard a vessel sailing for Africa. The vessel sinks in a violent storm and the young Irishman finds himself shipwrecked off the Slave Coast of Africa. He manages to swim to shore but is captured by a tribe of African natives, who, in turn, sell him to a demonic white slave-trader. Indentured, the young man has no choice but to work off his "debt" as a laborer in the slave trade. During his years of enslavement, the young man falls in love with a girl, half-African, half Portuguese, who has been raised on the myths and magic of Africa. |
